Genesis

Vintage Football was created by a single person, in his spare time.

Given the limited availability of time, the creator's initial idea was to try to recreate classic 2D video games from the 80s and 90s, a period in which it was still possible for a single person to make a complete video game.

After creating some technical demos of shoot'em up, platform game and racing game, the next challenge was to create a football video game, which is also one of the favorite genres of the creator of Vintage Football.

The source of inspiration was Sensible Soccer, for the visual that allows both to have a good vision of the game, and to show beautiful animations of the players.

An attempt has been made to improve some aspects of Sensible Soccer:

  • Fast-paced gameplay and difficulty to create realistic actions
  • Ball control limited to a few moments when a player receives the ball
  • One-button control system

As a result, Vintage Football proposes:

  • Slower pace of play that allows for maneuvered and realistic football actions
  • Extended Ball Control
  • Modern, three-button control system for low pass, high pass and shot.

On a technical level, Vintage Football was made using the free and open-source engine Godot Engine and the GD Script language.
Theoretically, it is portable to Windows, Linux, Mac OS, Android, iOS, PS4, PS5, XBox Series and One, Nintendo Switch
